Home technology installation in new homes is on the
move
About 51% of builders use integrated/custom
installers for home technology installation work, according to the
Consumer Electronics Association’s “State of the Builder”
Technology Market Study. This is up from just 34% just last year.
With the exception of structured wiring, the home
technologies offered by builders has increased since last year. Eighty
percent of builders offer monitored security, 74% offer multi-room
audio.
Increasing the most since last year are home
theaters, jumping from 59 to 69 percent. Structured wiring dropped from
88 percent to 82 percent, making entertainment the focus of home tech
installs.

In the more advanced homes, you will find LCD touch
screens that replace remote controls. Through the touch screens you can
access all your CD’s and radio stations and have the sound distributed
to all areas in and outside, or select different sounds for different
area within the house at the same time. The touch screens can instruct
your TV to show you security camera views, movies, DVDs, or the
Internet. The same touch screen allows you to adjust lighting inside and
outside, lock doors, set alarms, as well as set the controls for heating
and cooling. Oh yes, it will also change the TV channels.
